Shahid Online – Mountainhead opens with a quiet but eerie setup: a high-stakes poker night among the world’s richest men, taking place inside a luxurious mountaintop estate. But this is no ordinary gathering. In Mountainhead, every line of dialogue slices with sarcasm, and every interaction exposes the madness beneath the wealth. The host, Hugo nicknamed “Soup” by his wealthier friends is a “poor” billionaire who serves as the emotional ground zero in a room full of men drunk on power. Over one sleepless night, what begins as a casual reunion unravels into a dark and disturbing examination of ego, technology, and control.
This HBO original, written by Succession creator Jesse Armstrong, echoes the sharp wit and cynicism of his earlier work, but with a tech-tinted paranoia. Mountainhead pulls no punches. It’s claustrophobic, chaotic, and cold by design.

At its core, Mountainhead is a savage satire of modern tech billionaires those who believe humanity is simply data waiting to be uploaded. Randall (Steve Carell) obsesses over digital immortality, Venis (Cory Michael Smith) embodies Elon Musk-level narcissism, and Jeff (Ramy Youssef) attempts to be the voice of reason in a room where reason has been bought, buried, and sold again. Their conversations spiral from AI to political coups, as they debate whether they should overthrow a sitting president. All while sipping whiskey and placing bets.
In Mountainhead, Armstrong offers no redemption arc. These characters are caricatures: grotesque reflections of unchecked privilege. Unlike Succession, where even the most vile players are layered with vulnerability, Mountainhead intentionally strips that away. These men aren’t broken they’re hollow.
Despite its brilliant performances and punchy writing, Mountainhead lacks the emotional gravity that made Succession so addictive. It’s funny, yes painfully funny at times but also intentionally distant. Armstrong seems more interested in critique than connection. The characters aren’t meant to be understood, just watched like a circus of megalomaniacs devouring their own humanity.
